RE: first occurance of node with hierarchy

I will give some more details to hopefully help a little...

There are five step nodes

<step1><step2><step3><step4><step5>

each step node can contain either <para>'s or <specpara>'s (special paras)

a <specpara> must contain a <para> (and some other stuff)

I need to output a number at the first occurance of a <para> within each
step, which can be as a child or within a <specpara>

So, the I need an xpath to match:

the first occurance of <para> as a descendant of <step>, for each <step> 1
to 5

(the steps are nested if that makes any difference)

Im not sure if that makes it any clearer...

cheers
andrew

your best bet is to have a recursive template that walks through the entire
tree, though since your steps are all named differently maybe you have a
different approach for each step ? thats not such a worry as u could have
the recursive template just search through all child elements.

to identify a para as 1st try something like selecting/testing for para[1]
