it's almost always a mistake to use disable-output-escaping unless you
really know you need it (as it is non-portable and a hack) here you
certainly do not need it as count() only ever produces digits and
disable-output-escaping does not affect digits it only affects the way <
and & appear.
<xsl:for-each select="bannerlist/banner">
<xsl:param name="count" expr="count+1"></xsl:param>
<xsl:param can only appear as the first child of xsl:template
or xsl:stylesheet. Also it does not have an expr attribute.
It looks from the expr attribute that you are trying to add one to the
value of a counter, but recall that you can not change the value of a
parameter once it is bound.
