you might want to experiment with the Oracle Java XSLT. that is
remarkably sensitive to the Java :-}
You also want to upgrade to Saxon 5.5, which is faster.

this was discussed on the Sablotron list today, coincidentally. yes,
they are thinking about it, but I suppose conformance is their real
priority.
