Argh, you're right. I not only didn't notice that the preceding axis
doesn't contain attributes, but I also didn't notice the explicit
exclusion of attributes in the description of the behavior of xsl:number
when level="any". Thanks.

Regardless, I guess XT's implementation of xsl:number is not quite
correct?
