I checked in the necessary fixes (and also BWidget itself) a few days ago.
So you should be able to add your tree code without problems now.
It is true that pure Tcl should be platform independent, but there are
numerous small differences between how it is implemented on different
platforms. One such problem that I am wrestling with right now is the
-borderwidth option.
