Not exactly.

I'd like to stop the incipient battle, put it on pause.
I'd like a screen available where I can edit all units participating in the
battle.

What be even better is to automatically generate information about the
battle's participants into a text file that I can submit as a script to the
battle resolution software (a separate game of tactical generalship
(www.dbaol.com)).

Ultimately XCONQ would be a campaign system that can be used to generate
battles.

I'm willing to work at the necessary coding, though as a newbie, advice
would be greatly appreciated.
