Why elf/sln not build?

The version i'm talking about is part of util-linux and apparently written
by Mike Parker and David MacKenzie.  But by looking closer i've realized
that your version is indeed backward compatible with this one.  Ulrich,
could you please undo the change in elf/Makefile?
