2.3 can't be built with gcc 4.
I've got it building fairly well. Only a few patches were needed.
Haven't run the regression tests, though.
These particular warnings are a gcc bug, though.
Has a gcc bug been filed already? If not, I can
try to put together minimal test cases, and if
they turn out to be real, file a bug.
(Generally, when I've seen that error
building random applications with earlier gcc's,
gcc has been right. I can certainly imagine gcc-4.0
being wrong, though.)
