Nobody pays me to maintain the code I do, either. Doesn't mean I'm not
interested in bug fixes nor does it mean I don't like feedback telling me I
need fix x, y or z.

Hardly. The bug in this case is well known and well understood. Granted it
would have been nice had the folks that make the silicon choosen a different
design approach but back in those days feedback from the open source
community didn't necessarily reach those offices.  Regardless, let's fix the
bug in glibc so each of the distros (like SuSE, Redhat, Montavista, Debian
and Yellow Dog) don't have to continue to do it themselves.
