According to the automated tester, the version dated `16 March 1999
23:00 UTC' works fine, although I haven't tried it with egcs 1.1.2 yet
(it's only been released for three days!).

which lists the precise versions of all the tools I used.
I strongly suspect a bug in your binutils.
