no gui when gdb launched

Hi all,
I built and installed insight 5.0 using ./configure, make, and make install
and everything seemed to go fine with no errors but when I launch gdb I
don't get the insight gui...just the console gdb as if I had used gdb -nw.
I get the same result using gdb -w. Any ideas?
I'm using mandrake 7.2 with gdb-5.0-4mdk rpm and the
insight-4.95.2.tar.bz2 which unpacks as insight-5.0.
