No, he's telling you that using --prefix=/usr is the correct way
to achieve the effect you want. If you look at the SlackBuild
script for glibc you'll see that's what Slackware does.
It seems a little foolhardy to be rebuilding the C libraries
yourself without checking this sort of thing in advance.
