            Bug ID: 19598
Summary: GDB breakpoint locks up Ubuntu UI, requiring reboot
           Product: gdb
           Version: 7.7
            Status: NEW
          Severity: critical
          Priority: P2
         Component: breakpoints
Assignee: unassigned at sourceware dot org
Reporter: drn at nadler dot com
  Target Milestone: ---

When GDB encounters a breakpoint in this application, the entire GUI of Ubuntu
stops working. Mouse tracking continues, but clicks are not processed, and it
is no longer possible to do anything even though Ubuntu is running. Reboot is
required...

GNU gdb (Ubuntu 7.7.1-0ubuntu5~14.04.2) 7.7.1

HELP!

Initially this was reported as an Eclipse problem, but another developer on
this open-source project reports using gdb outside Eclipse has the same
problem.

To make it easy to reproduce the problem, I've posted a VM snapshot (VMware) of
the entire environment. To reproduce the problem:

download the VM here:
http://www.nadler.com/backups/20160209_snapshot_Ubuntu2015_64-bit_TopHat.zip
Unzip, and resume this VM
click on "debug" icon in Eclipse
click on resume after initial break in main (initial break doesn't cause hang)
click on TopHat window "SIM"
click on "back" icon in TopHat lower-left twice
On moving map, click on '+' ===>>> GDB crashes Ubuntu UI, reboot required...
