I've spent some time looking at this, I couldn't think of anything I'm happy
with. Our STRUCT_DOMAIN vs VAR_DOMAIN approach has issues, and I'm not sure
how best to resolve them.
I propose reverting this patch for 7.8, and then revisit after 7.8 has
branched.
