This PR is marked as blocking for creating the GDB 7.7 branch, but I think that
the blocking part (the feature regression) has been addressed, only leaving the
open question about guarding against uninitialized data triggering overly large
memory allocations.
If I am right, can Doug or I move the corresponding entry in...
