OK, I've appended a patch below.  This changes only the "core" registers,
I didn't think it was necessary to go through all the special registers
for the various chips ...

Does that look OK to you?  It fixes about 35 FAILs when running the
32-bit testsuite on a 64-bit ppc GDB.

address_from_register will in the end go through pointer_to_address,
which should take care of the MIPS sign-extension issue.
