I've been wondering the same thing myself. I don't think I've tried
4.17.0.1x but I have been seeing the SIGTRAP bug with a variety of
GDB's going back to last summer or so. Probably including 4.18 with
the threads patch which shipped with Red Hat Linux 6.1.

Well, maybe. Because this seems to be some kind of race condition
somewhere, unrelated changes to GDB could make it happen more or less.
Plus of course there is the obvious observation about controlling for
glibc and kernel versions.
