Sadly it isn't uncommon, several current distros still ship with
problematic libc_freeres implementations, including Debian stable
and the latest RHEL based releases. So we shouldn't hide the fix
on a branch. It is correct in all circumstances we use it in and
doesn't limit functionality. I'll put it on master.
