When you submitted this patch I passed it onto Jifl since i don't
understand all the layering going on here.
Jifl: Could you take a look at this. Is it the correct solution to the
problem?
Yes, although I've swapped around the terms in the if and the ChangeLog
isn't quite right, and checked it in.
This stuff is basically an artifact of the gradual changes to libc over
time, rather than being written properly for an FS from the start.
