This is probably a linker script issue. I saw it on another architecture
recently. Try something like this:
*** sparc.ld.~1.3.~ Thu Apr 10 14:07:58 2003
--- sparc.ld Fri Aug 12 08:12:50 2005
***************
*** 125,131 ****
#define SECTION_bss(_region_, _vma_, _lma_) \
.bss _vma_ : _lma_ \
{ __bss_start = ABSOLUTE (.); \
! *(.scommon) *(.dynbss) *(.bss) *(COMMON) \
__bss_end = ABSOLUTE (.); } \

--- 125,131 ----
#define SECTION_bss(_region_, _vma_, _lma_) \
.bss _vma_ : _lma_ \
{ __bss_start = ABSOLUTE (.); \
! *(.scommon) *(.dynbss) *(.bss*) *(COMMON) \
__bss_end = ABSOLUTE (.); } \
