Ahh, thanks, msg00003.html contained the solution (at least for me).
I changed:
#ifdef CYGPKG_IO_ETH_DRIVERS_NET
to:
#ifndef CYGPKG_IO_ETH_DRIVERS_STAND_ALONE
in packages/devs/eth/intel/i82559/current/src/if_i82559.c
Now at least the tree compiles cleanly, so it's a big step in the right
direction.
