Did you get your repository from a snapshot?

In any case, what you need to do is establish your credentials with
the CVS server before running 'diff'.  Do this using this command:
  cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@sources.redhat.com:/cvs/ecos login 
just type 'anoncvs' for the password.  Then you should be able to
run the 'cvs diff' command without error.
