When testing on bochs I always use the GRUB startup type. I have a
floppy image file that bochs uses as floppya. I then set up a loop
device on Linux and mount it to copy executable eCos images into for
booting by GRUB. I use the bochs GDB support to debug the
application.
As far as I know, the ethernet device supported by bochs is not
supported in eCos.
