AFAIK, cs8952 is not an ethernet chip, but only a tranceiver (a.k.a. PHY). Are you simply sure about this reference ?

Major, there's no doubt about it, because cs8900a is a full ethernet chip, and cs8952 is a tranceiver that needs to be connected to a MAC layer (through the well known MII).

It is possible to connect a CS8900A to EB40a, but it is not straightforward. The software side is easier ( see edb7xxx port ), I experienced it for an AT91M55800 ( eb55 ).
Connecting a cs8952 sounds very strange to me ... unless you plan to control the MII with GPIO, the AT91R40008 and cs8952 are not designed to work together.
