Re: docbook vs latex

/ Doug du Boulay <ddb@R3401.rlem.titech.ac.jp> was heard to say:
| Clearly Ramon has identified weaknesses in the existing
| content model, and gone ahead and implemented a solution.
| If it isnt the most ideal markup notation then shouldnt the Docbook
| developers at least try to find out what would be ideal
| and work toward some compromise? Scientific program documentation is
| still program documentation.

With respect to mathematics at least, the DocBook TC has long resisted
any attempts to design markup for it because none of us are domain
knowledgeable enough. MathML seems to be gaining momentum and surely
it's better than anything we would have invented.

I have a feeling that elements like 'maththeorum' might be more
important in mathematics journals than scientific software
documentation, but I could be wrong.

Certainly, if there are communities of developers using DocBook and
finding it lacking, they are encouraged to submit RFEs.
