Maybe because of cutting & pasting from a different document that used the
other syntax. If intermixing the two were not allowed, you would have to
rewrite that stuff again. (I know that this could most likely be taken
care of by a style sheet.)

I agree with you on this one. Mixing the two in the *same* table is not a
good idea.

Editor vendors usually charge more than enough, so they should indeed add
a feature that makes it worth spending the money on an editor ,-)
