Lennart once explained it to me; use the complete chain and try all
elements in capitals. This works for me using TEI:
sgml-parent-document:("erinnerungen.sgml" "TEI.2" "TEXT" "BODY" "DIV")
Concerning DocBook I'd write:
("master.sgml" "BOOK" "SECT1")
