Since, from a publisher's point of view, spaces, tabs and CRs _are_
significant data in beautified program listings , I took the approach
to convert them to character entities ␣ and &forcedret; resp.
You can map them on whatever means your publishing system provides,
E.g. in HTML ␣ -> and &forcedret; -> <BR>.
