You are still removing choice though Michael? I agree about 
the DTD change reduction, but I'd still prefer to decide if
and when I update the software.

Which if I do a standard install would overwrite my old setup.

I do like that idea, simplifying the catalog changes.
(btw, did you see the catalog test suite announced on xml-dev list?[1])

I agree about the dependencies, just unsure about being given 3 products
when I only want one?
