I have things working now, and will post documentation of what I did so
the archives can find something for "autoconf".

It's not a problem for C programs, because GCC has a simple, clear,
obvious method for finding include files (BOTH system and local), of
which the basics can be understand in 5 minutes. These XML tools have
gone for an XML way which is enormously difficult to use in comparison.
But I don't want to get into "name calling" :)

I think I've made the point anyway.
