I posted yesterday on news.easysw.com/htmldoc.general asking whether
there are some plans to support DocBook as new output format.

Michael Sweet from Easy Software Products replied:

"...it is certainly possible but I'm not sure if you would get a 1-to-1 
mapping (that is, if you used HTMLDOC to index a DocBook file, the output 
file might not preserve all of the DocBook elements)"

So it looks this is no way to go for the near future...
