In fact, the test in glibc is wrong, and does not breaks on too-recent a version of binutils (as and ld come from binutils). This is properly handled in crosstool-NG. > Earlier versions say that gcc is too old (or missing). > They are not missing and probably too new for this?! Indeed, they are "too new" for glibc to recognise them, although they are not "too new" to build glibc. > What can I do? As I said above, crosstool is no longer maintained. Please, try crosstool-NG.
