That fortify hack is used in some of the samples, all being x86 or x86_64. What those do is set: extra target CFLAGS --> -U_FORTIFY_SOURCE (which sets CT_LIBC_GLIBC_EXTRA_CFLAGS "-U_FORTIFY_SOURCE" in .config).
