Are there any patches for the gdb to fix that?

Not that I am aware of, however, you should report this to the GDB people:

I did. They told me it's gonna be fixed in upcomming version 6.4!

Did they offer a patch? I'm currious as to the meaning of that lvalue assignment, and its translation to "legal" C.
