That is the one I use. But, as said in an other post, switch to a newer kernel, even in the 2.4.x series, as these -mshort-load-bytes have been removed from mainline in 'recent' 2.4.x (at least, 2.4.27 still exhibit this problem, while 2.4.29 was updated, no clue for 2.4.28).
