Coldfire(mc5272c3) receiving error for static driver compilation

hi,
as i am new to this field if i ask some silly doubt i would beg your
pardon.

i am presently trying to statically compile a driver for MC5272C3
Coldfire. i am able to get the kernel for uClibc for linux 2.4 but when
i want to open the driver file doesn't allow me to do and gives and
error that "NO SUCH DEVICE EXISTS". is their something to do with mem.c
in /linux2.4.x/driver/char/

please help me in this regard.
Devarshi
