Error while building for linux-2.6

HI,

I build the cross compiler for mips with crossgcc and using
linux-2.6,glibc-2.3.2,gcc-3.3,binutils-2.14.

I am getting the following error.

include/linux/version.h
>>make: *** No rule to make target `symlinks'.  Stop.

But in linux-2.6 version.h is not there in the corresponding directory.
What are the changes i need to do ?? 

Note:I could do for linux-2.4.x without any problem.
