this does work, on Debian unstable (gcc-3.3.1) it breaks.
OK, I'll try it. I'll use Debian stable but with a hand-compiled gcc-3.3.1. (No particular need to trust the Debian compiler, since you had trouble with it :-) May take me a while to get to it. What was the error? - Dan
