  Solaris is one of the well-used and maintained targets for gcc, so
it ought to be fairly bugfree.  To know if you're doing anything wrong
we'd probably have to see your configure options.

  Alternatively you could probably just get a precompiled version from
http://www.sunfreeware.com/
