problem building GNU toolchain

Hi
    i am building a GNU toolchain for arm targets and this is my first
time building a cross-compiler. I have installed the assembler and
linker using the binutils 2.9.5.0.24 as well as compiled gcc
(patched) 2.95.1 . However, I encountered some errors when compiling
glibc 2.1.2pre3. I had successfully configured with add-ons : crypt and
linuxthreads but was shown the following errors when using make :
make [1] : *** [init-first.o]
make [1] : Leaving directory /usr/src/glibs-2.12pre3/csu'
make : *** [csu/subdir_lib] Error 2.

Can any kind soul pls enlighten me what had actually gone wrong??
