Attached a revised patch with all mentioned issues addressed (and hopefully no new bad formatting introduced). Re-built and re-tested on i686-pc-linux-gnu.

Since you say 'before you commit, ...' and since I don't have cvs write access, yet * do I take this as direction/approval to obtain such?
