I think I committed the fix for the visibility stuff (which I appear to
have botched) just after that time. No, it was just before...

Why? What's in the logs? Does sh1.c contain __attribute__((weak)) or
not?

Woah. I don't remember these in your list! Can you provide ld.log
snippets for the failing vers* tests?
