Well, I think an important factor in the testing is not only binutils
version, but gcc and glibc version as well.
E.g. I've just run make check on sparc-redhat-linux on todays checkout
and the only failure I got was:
FAIL: S-records with constructors

This is Aurora (RHL 7.2 SPARC port) distro, gcc-2.96-RH (2.96-102),
glibc 2.2.4.
