The operation of the planner can be partially controlled by altering the default values of some backend variables. The Edit Planner Options dialog enables you to temporarily change these values (for the duration of the connection only) so that you can experiment with the planner behavior under different settings.
Once you have a connection to a database opened, you can try altering planner variables to see the affect on the generated query plan. To do this, on the Menu Bar choose Edit => Planner Options. The Edit Planner Options dialog appears.
