If I've understood correctly it looks like you need to use an 
xsl:attribute to build the link. It would look a little something like this:

<a>
   <xsl:attribute name="href"><xsl:value-of 
select="/page/results/prevnext/@prevresult"/></xsl:attribute>
</a>
