Thanks for the tip, I'll have a play around with it..
 
(Actually, my original template produced table rows, but I then
considered this to be a bit non-optimal when I could just write out
fo:blocks instead....)
 
I know the guys on the FOP project are re-writing the layout engine, do
you have any idea when this issue might be addressed? 
I'm keen to keep using FOP if possible, but I realise that the new
version may be some time...
