How to do the counter increment?
	<xsl:variable name="counter">1</xsl:variable>
	$counter=$counter + 1

Zhongqing:

<xsl:variable name="val3" select="$val1 + $val2"/>

Note that $val1 and $val2 have to be in scope for this to work, of course.
