Hi!
Excuse me if this is a faq issue.
Well, local variables in XSLT 1.0 have block-structured scope, i.e. "...the binding
is visible for all following siblings and their descendants" (xslt 1.0 spec).
So, why the following xsl works in msxml3 ? (Saxon and Xalan reported an error, as expected).
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:template match="/">
<html>
<xsl:variable name="var" select="'some value'"/>
</html>
<xsl:value-of select="$var"/>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
And output is:
<html>
</html>some value
