you can use any XPath expression inside a [] predicate. The axis
restriction only applies to step construction.

so you can't do
match="a/following-sibling::b]"
but you can do
match="b[preceding-sibling::a]
which matches what was intended, a b with an earlier a sibling.


(However I don't think Dave's stylesheet is doing quite what you asked
for)
