Well call me silly again, but I believe it
works with most parser. However, I'll agree with you
that it may not work with some parser and that it does
work with Saxon (which I'm using). :)

It works for your particular version of your particular parser.
If it is not explicitly spelt out in the spec, then it might not elsewhere -
we are trying to avoid tying XSLT to *any* parser/ OS mix...*grin*
